In the series, video games and two movies, he is voiced by Scott Menville, with his young voice provided by Kath Soucie. In Rise of Babylon, his singing voice is provided by pop star Aaron Carter and in the live-action film, he is portrayed by Ross Lynch. In The Quest for Beasts: A New Generation, his voice is provided by Roger Craig Smith.

Biography[]

Ethan was born in the 1980s to parents Steve Burns, a wealthy businessman, and Jean Burns (nee McCarthy), a businesswoman. Ethan has an older brother called Chris, who is part of a heavy metal band called Black Adder. Ethan's ancestry is revealed to be Norwegian (his paternal grandmother was from Bergen) and Irish (his maternal grandmother was from Cork). Ethan grew up in an affluent house and in one episode, mentions having inherited his late uncle's wealth. At some point, Ethan gained powers of controlling the elements and the power to merge with natural matter and with plants and animals. He later met his friends Daniel Cypher, Sonya Matthews, Juliana Marquez and Michael Harris and together they would travel the world to protect monsters known as beasts from evil.

Appearance and personality[]

Ethan is a lanky fair-skinned youth with blond hair and brown eyes. He generally sports a green T-shirt, khaki shorts and white trainers. In Sonya's vision, at the end of the final episode, he is seen being more muscular, and sporting a black and green jumpsuit, which is retained in A New Generation. In the latter series, he also takes on the form of a basilisk, a lizard-like monster. Ethan is a kind, comedic and often dopey individual. He often provides the show's comic relief, however on occasion, he can be quite serious and on the whole, he is always willing to help his friends. He is also something of a slacker, as it is revealed in one episode he has failed many a history test. Ethan also appears to like eating, particularly fast food and a brand of corn chips called "Cheesy Bites".
