Arnold Schortman (アーノルド・ツョートマン, Ānorudo Shōtoman) is a nine-year-old forth grader with a big imagination. He lives in the city of Hillwood with his family and is friends with Gerald JoHansson, Phoebe Hayerdahll, Eugene Horowitz, Herald Vermon, Stinky Peterson, Helga Pataki, and Patti Smith. He is also a pet owner, and has a pig named Abner.
